02Odds conversion formulas
Fractional to decimal: decimal = (numerator / denominator) + 1
American to decimal: +A: decimal = 1 + A / 100
-A: decimal = 1 + 100 / A
Decimal to American: decimal 2.00 or more: +(decimal - 1) x 100
decimal under 2.00: -100 / (decimal - 1)
Implied probability: probability = 1 / decimal (x 100 for %)
Probability to decimal: decimal = 100 / probability %Decimal odds include your stake: 2.50 means a 1 unit bet returns 2.50 in total, 1.50 of it profit. Fractional odds show only the profit: 6/4 means 6 profit for every 4 staked, which is the same 2.50. American odds are built around 100: +150 means 150 profit on a 100 stake, and -200 means you stake 200 to make 100.
03Worked examples
Example
- 6/4 to decimal: 6 / 4 + 1 = 2.50. American: (2.50 - 1) x 100 = +150. Implied: 1 / 2.50 = 40%.
- -110 to decimal: 1 + 100 / 110 = 1.909, which is 10/11 and an implied 52.38%. A -110 / -110 market adds up to 104.76%, which is why it's the classic example of a 4.76% margin.
- 25% to odds: 100 / 25 = 4.00 decimal, 3/1 fractional, +300 American.
04Frequently asked questions
How do I convert fractional odds to decimal?
Divide the first number by the second and add 1. 5/2 is 2.5 + 1 = 3.50. Evens (1/1) is 2.00.
How do I convert American odds to decimal?
For positive odds, divide by 100 and add 1, so +250 is 3.50. For negative odds, divide 100 by the number (without the minus) and add 1, so -125 is 1.80.
What does a minus sign mean in American odds?
It marks the favourite. The number is how much you'd stake to win 100. A plus sign marks the underdog and shows how much you'd win on a 100 stake.
What is implied probability?
It's the chance of winning that the odds suggest, worked out as 1 divided by the decimal odds. It still includes the bookmaker's margin, so for a fair estimate use the fair odds calculator on the whole market.
Why does the fractional result say "closest"?
Many decimal prices have no neat fraction. 1.91 is really 91/100, but bookmakers show it as 10/11 (1.909), so the converter shows the closest common fraction and marks it with ≈.
Why does 1.67 show as -149 and not -150?
Because 1.67 is a rounded number. The exact decimal for 4/6 or -150 is 1.6667. Type 4/6 or -150 if you want the exact price.
