The Model

7 questions

How is the fair odd calculated?

The model estimates the probability of a player scoring at least one goal in the match, based on factors like their historical goal rate, the quality of the opposition, home/away split, and match importance. This probability is converted into a fair odd (1 / probability).

The fair odd in the table is that per-match price. Expected minutes are already included when the model is built. The site does not scale the fair odd by minutes again. Turn + Pen on to add that player's share of team penalties.

What does EV% mean?

Expected Value (EV%) measures how much better the bookmaker's odds are compared to the model's fair odd, expressed as a percentage.

Formula: EV% = (bookmaker odd / fair odd − 1) × 100

A positive EV% (for example +15%) means the bookmaker price is 15% above the model fair odd. A negative EV% means the book price is below that fair odd.

Following only positive EV does not warrant guaranteed profits. Bankroll management is advised.

What is xMins?

xMins is the number of minutes a player is expected to play. It accounts for rotation risk, injury status, and starting probability. A star marks a player who has mainly featured as a substitute. Expected minutes are already inside the fair odd, so the table does not apply a second minutes adjustment.

What does the Pen toggle do?

Toggling Pen on for a player recalculates their fair odd to include the probability that their team earns a penalty and they take it (adjusted for penalty conversion rate). This increases their goal probability and lowers their fair odd.

The designated penalty taker for each team is automatically identified (shown with a gold PEN badge). Players marked with a ★ are likely substitutes and are excluded from automatic pen taker selection.

What is the +O1.5 column?

This is a Kambi Bet Builder combination: player scores anytime + match has over 1.5 goals. Because this is a correlated parlay (a high-scoring match makes both goals and player goals more likely), it often offers higher odds than the standalone goalscorer market. Value and EV% use the model’s combo fair price (not the standalone goalscorer fair). When the +O1.5 price beats that combo fair, the cell is highlighted in purple.

How often are odds updated?

Kambi and Bet365 odds are scraped and updated every 15 minutes via an automated pipeline. The freshness of the current odds is shown in the header with a colour-coded dot: green (under 15 min), amber (under 45 min), red (45+ min).

What does the ★ next to a player name mean?

A ★ next to a player's name indicates they are expected to be a substitute or have significant rotation risk. These players are automatically excluded from automatic penalty taker selection, but their goalscoring odds are still shown.
